Germany, Luftwaffe. A Signals Personnel Feldwebel’s Service Tunic, by M. Drickl

(Waffenrock für Feldwebel der Nachrichtentruppe). A very well-preserved Luftwaffe Signals Personnel Feldwebel’s service tnic, constructed of a dark grey wool twill. It features a turned-down collar which transitions into double breast flaps. Trimming the collar is a length of light brown piping, with an additional silver aluminum wire tresse border. Integrated into the collar underneath the tresse are two tabs, both constructed of light brown wool with buckram cores and pinned with three aluminum gulls. Affixed to each shoulder is a strap constructed of dark grey wool, trimmed with light brown piping, bordered by a silver aluminum wire tresse, and pinned with a single silvered bronze pip. Measuring 40 mm (w) x 95 mm (l), the straps are secured in place with machine stitching at the outer edge and with a pebbled magnetic metal button on the inner edge. The cuff of each sleeve is rolled up to a depth of 130 mm and securely held in place with heavy pieces of machine stitching at the front and back. Two pleated pockets are set into each breast flap, all opening with horizontal flaps with reinforced buttonholes meeting pebbled magnetic metal buttons. Stitched onto the upper right breast and overlapping the applicable pocket is an insignia consisting of a dark grey wool backer bearing a hand-embroidered silver aluminum wire Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 85 mm (w) x 55 mm (h). The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece slate-grey rayon liner, which features an integral belt locking together with magnetic metal buckles set into the waistband. A single pocket is located at the upper left breast, opening with a reinforced horizontal slit, just above a narrow slit for the accommodation of a dagger hanger. Stitched onto the collar is a suspension loop bearing an embroidered maker’s mark of “M. DRICKL, BAD AIBLING”. It measures approximately 440 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 605 mm, and an overall body length of 690 mm. Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include minor exterior soiling with spots of fatigue, the outline of a rank insignia removed from the upper left arm, and some soiling and wear of the collar. It is in an overall extremely fine condition.
