Germany, Third Reich. A State Forestry Service Oberforstmeister Service Tunic

(Reichsforstdienst Dienstrock für Oberforstmeister). A very well-preserved State Forestry Service Oberforstmeister service tunic, constructed of dark green whipcord wool. It features a turned-down collar which transitions into double breast lapels. The collar is topped by a layer of hunter-green wool, and trimmed along the outer edge with twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire piping. The shoulders are flanked by boards constructed of hunter-green doeskin with card stock cores, topped by four bands of interwoven hunter-green threaded piping, and pinned with two silvered bronze acorn devices. Each measuring 42 mm (w) x 110 mm (l), the boards are secured in place with machine stitching at the outer edge and with a bakelite button on the inner edge. Each cuff is rolled up to a depth of 14 cm, secured in place with a single piece of stitching, and is trimmed along the top with a length of hunter-green piping. The breasts have four pockets, all closing with scalloped flaps perforated with reinforced buttonholes meeting bakelite buttons, with the upper pockets featuring a scalloped exterior and all trimmed with hunter-green piping. A set of vertically-arranged threaded loops are set into the upper left pocket for the accommodation of an award with a vertical pinback. The tunic closes with four bakelite buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttons on the left. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece field-grey rayon liner which transitions into a pinstripe design through the arms. A pocket is set into each breast, with the left overlaid by a maker’s label reading “WALOCH, HANN. MÜNDEN”. It measures approximately 46 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 62 cm, and an overall body length of 78 cm. The absence of Third Reich-period insignia indicates that the tunic may have been modified for postwar usage. Demonstrating no notable damage or wear, it remains in an extremely fine condition.
