Germany, Luftwaffe. A Fallschirmjäger M42 Pattern Camouflage Smock
(Luftwaffe Fallschirmschützenbluse). A rare Luftwaffe M42 pattern camouflage smock that shows excellent and desirable period wartime use, constructed of cotton twill with a faded camouflage pattern. The smock features an integrated collar, while the shoulders each bear a loop and button formerly accommodating a rank strap. Each sleeve has a cuff with a slit closing with a functional magnetic metal snap button. The breast flaps both have a single pocket, located at the half and opening with a horizontal flap with a reinforced buttonhole meeting a zink button. The breast flaps are closed with three dark grey bakelite buttons meeting four reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. The interior has a single pocket, located at the upper left breast, opening with a horizontal flap bearing a zink button. It is stamped in black ink with sizes “44, 50, 96, 88, 66” and a Reichsbetriebsnummer “250207” for an unidentified Berlin-based manufacturer. Ventilation slits are visible underneath both armpits. The interior features complete with an integrated suspension loop in the collar, as well as a magnetic metal hook on the right meeting a loop of identical construction on the left, facilitating a flush fit with the wearer’s neck. The smock measures approximately 460 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 590 mm and an overall body length of 780 mm. It is missing a breast button, sporadic tearing is evidence, and there is some soiling and material fatigue throughout. It is in an overall very fine condition.
