Germany, Third Reich. A Second War Luftwaffe Lieutenant's Tunic

(Luftwaffe Leutnant Waffenrock). This is an extremely well-preserved tunic worn by a Leutnant (Lieutenant) of the Luftwaffe. The tunic is constructed of a fine quality dark-grey wool exterior with a black rayon-blended interior lining with a smooth, silky texture. Black and cream striped rayon-blended material lines the interior of the sleeves. Silver half wreaths, wings, and silver edging over gold-yellow wool adorn the collar tabs, measuring approximately 43 mm (w) x 55 mm (h). Twisted silver aluminum bullion piping borders the collar. The shoulder boards are constructed of two strands of silver aluminum bullion wire laid flat on the gold-yellow wool underlay. Stitched over the top seam of the right breast pocket is a breast eagle constructed of silvered aluminum bullion wire, measuring 90 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). Each breast of the tunic has two stylized pockets. While the right breast pocket is stitched shut by the breast eagle, the left breast pocket is closed by a reinforced button hole meeting a pebbled, silvered metal button, stamped on the reverse with “A.H. ERSTKLASSIG.” The breasts of the jacket are closed with four reinforced button holes meeting an equal number of pebbled, silvered metal buttons, stamped on the reverse with “A.H. ERSTKLASSIG.” A 1939 Second Class Iron Cross ribbon is securely stitched through the top button hole. The interior of the jacket contains a pocket on the upper left breast and an interior belt buckle with metal clasps. The interior of the shoulders has a stitched, rayon-blended loop for hanging a dagger. The collar measures approximately 440 mm at the shoulders, 630 mm in the arms, with an overall length of 685 mm. Both cuffs are turned up to approximately 145 mm and held up by one piece of stitching. The tunic is perfectly presented and is in an overall extremely fine condition.
