(Schutzpolizei Dienstkleidung). This is an extremely well-preserved Schutzpolizei (Protection Police) EM/NCO’s uniform, constructed of Police-green wool twill, including a tunic, with a collar constructed of dark brown wool, trimmed with green piping and bearing dual tabs. Each tab is constructed of a green wool base, trimmed with twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire piping, and bears dual machine-embroidered silver aluminum wire insignia with green threaded bands. The tabs each measure 35 mm (w) x 70 mm (l). The shoulders are adorned with boards, constructed of a cardboard-reinforced green wool base, bearing two bands of rolled silver aluminum wire interspersed with brown threading, and two bands of rolled brown threading. Pinned into each board are two silvered bronze rank pips, indicating a rank of Hauptwachtmeister. Each measuring 35 mm (w) x 105 mm (l), the boards are connected to the tunic by a row of machine stitching at the outer edge, and by a silvered, pebbled zink button on the interior. The upper left arm bears a Schutzpolizei insignia in the form of a grey wool patch displaying a machine-embroidered green Police-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. The patch measures 90 mm (w) x 77 mm (h). Each breast of the tunic has two pockets, opening with stylized horizontal flaps meeting pebbled, silvered zink buttons. All buttons on the tunic are maker marked on the reverse with “Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid”. Above the upper left breast pocket are two horizontally-arranged thread loops holding in place a medal ribbon bar with four decorations. The decorations include a War Merit Cross with Swords, a War Merit Medal, a Police 8-Year Long Service Medal, and a Silesian Eagle. The ribbons are set on a 60 mm-long magnetic metal bar. The same pocket also bears two vertically-arranged thread loops accommodating a decoration with a vertical pinback. The tunic is closed with eight pebbled, silvered, zink buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left, which is also trimmed with a band of green piping. The reverse features dual silvered, pebbled, zink belt loops and decorative buttons. The interior of the tunic is fully lined with an olive-green cotton liner, which has a single pocket located at the upper left breast. The liner transitions into a pinstripe pattern through the arms. The interior is stamped “Po. 1247” in black ink. Stitched into each armpit is a cotton loop, while the collar bears three magnetic metal butterfly-style clips holding in place a white cardboard stay, along with two magnetic metal hooks on the right meeting dual loops on the left. The tunic is unmarked and measures approximately 450 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 630 mm and an overall body length of 710 mm. Minor material fatigue is evident, but the tunic is in an otherwise extremely fine condition.
