A Field Grey Waffen-SS Sturmführer Medical Officer's Tunic

A fine quality tunic fabricated from a field grey wool, while the contrasting collar is in forest green wool. The shoulders are adorned with Medical Officer's shoulder boards, each board incorporating with four rows of gray threading interlaced with fine silvered aluminum wire, wrapped around white cord, in a chevron formation, with a bronze gilt snake and caduceus insignia, a loop creating a button hole for uniform attachment at the neck end, the side piping in blue wool, the underside in black wool, each of the loops with a grayish-green finished magnetic metal button with a pebbled upper securing the board to the tunic. Both sides of the collar have the appropriate Sturmführer rank insignia, the right collar tab bearing the SS Runes in fine silvered threading, the left collar tab bearing three silvered aluminum pips, the base of each tab in black wool and trimmed in angled rolled silvered bullion wire. There is a dual hook and eye at the opening of the collar, ensuring a snug fit at the neck line. There are four pockets on the front, one on each breast and larger ones at the waist on both sides, each designed with a decorative pleat, each pocket with a grayish-green finished magnetic metal button with a pebbled upper, without maker mark and marked "EXTRA FEIN" (Extra Fine) on the reverse. There are five horizontally-aligned vertical loops in green threading above the left breast pocket where a ribbon bar once resided. The left breast pocket has a row of two vertically-aligned horizontal loops on the pleat in olive green threading, for the placement of an award that have since been lost to time. The front has a vertical row of five grayish-green finished magnetic metal buttons with a pebbled uppers sewn in place on the right side, maker marked with a stylized "A" (F.W. Assmann & Söhne, Lüdenscheid) and marked "EXTRA FEIN" on the reverse, facing an equal number of reinforced button holes on the left side. Protruding from the second button hole from the top is the ribbon of the Iron Cross 2nd Class, the ends of the ribbon sewn in place on the underside of the opening. There is an officer's SS eagle insignia sewn in place on the left shoulder, the insignia in silvered bullion wire, interlaced with black threading and giving definition to the eagle's eye and wings, on a black wool base. The sleeves have French cuffs, each of which are held in place via stitching in two locations, the left cuff with a cuff title in fine silvered threading and black embroidery inscribed in Gothic script "Deutchland" (Germany), while the rear of the tunic is single-vented. The inside is lined in Army green rayon, the sleeves lined in rayon in an alternating white and black rule pattern. There is a pocket sewn in place on the left breast with an embroidered maker's label inscribed "Tiller A.G. WIEN VII. MARIAHILFER STR. 22" sewn in place on the front of the pocket, along with a reinforced slot below that opens into the exterior left waist pocket. The tunic measures 420 mm across the shoulders and 620 mm in length overall, displaying a nice texture in the wool, quality workmanship, intact stitching and is very clean. Extremely fine.
