Germany, SS. A Rasse & Settlement Main Office Oberführer’s Tunic, by Hans Götz

(Rasse- und Siedlungshauptamt der SS Waffenrock). This is an extremely well-preserved Oberführer’s tunic of the SS Race and Settlement Main Office, constructed of smooth field-grey wool. The collar is fully trimmed with twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire, and is flanked by tabs, each constructed of black doeskin wool and bearing hand-embroidered silver aluminum wire oak leaves and acorns. The tabs are fully trimmed with twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire and measure 45 mm (w) x 55 mm (l). The shoulders are adorned with boards, each constructed of a cardboard-reinforced black wool base with an additional layer of grey wool. The top of each board bears four bands of interwoven silver aluminum wire piping, and is pinned with two gilded bronze rank pips. The boards each measure 35 mm (w) x 100 mm (l) and are attached to the tunic by machine stitching at the outer edge and by a pebbled, silvered magnetic metal button on the inner edge. The upper right arm bears a SS Honour Chevron for the Old Guard, constructed of two black rayon bands bearing silver aluminum wire tresses bisected by two black threaded bands, measuring 75 mm (w) x 65 mm (h). The upper right arm bears an officer’s insignia in the form of a black wool patch with a hand-embroidered silver aluminum wire SS eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 95 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). Stitched onto the lower arm is a sleeve diamond consisting of a black wool patch with a hand-embroidered Odal rune, indicating personnel of the SS Race and Settlement Main Office, and measuring 48 mm (w) x 72 mm (h). The cuff of each sleeve is rolled up to a depth of 140 mm and is held in place by machine stitching at both the front and rear. Each breast has two pockets opening with horizontal flaps bearing reinforced buttonholes meeting a pebbled, silvered magnetic metal button. The upper left breast pocket has a pair of vertically-arranged threaded loops and a pair of horizontally-arranged threaded loops for the accommodating of decorations with corresponding pinback. Above the same pocket are three horizontally-arranged threaded loops with a medal ribbon bar featuring three decorations, including an Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918, a War Merit Cross, and a SS Long Service Medal. The bar measures 55 mm in length. The breast flaps are closed with four pebbled, silvered magnetic metal buttons on the left flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. All breast buttons are maker marked on the reverse “ASSMANN & SÖHNE, LÜDENSCHEID”, while the pocket buttons are marked on the reverse “EXTRA FEIN”. The exterior features are completed by dual pebbled, silvered magnetic metal belt hooks on the reverse. The interior is fully lined with field-grey satin. There is a single interior pocket, located at the top of the left breast and opening with a reinforced horizontal slit. The lower left also bears a reinforced horizontal slit opening into the exterior pocket for the accommodation of a dagger. Stitched into each armpit is a black rayon loop. The liner bears a maker’s label reading “HANS GÖTZ, WÜRZBURG” with an additional label displaying a set of tailor’s tools circumscribed by an inscription of “GÜTEZEICHEN DES HERRENSCHNEIDERHANDWERKS” (“QUALITY MARK OF MASTER TAILORS”). The tunic measures approximately 420 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 598 mm and an overall body length of 725 mm. The tunic presents free of evident faults and is in an extremely fine condition.
