Germany, DDR. A ZF4/S Rifle Scope, with Case, by Carl Zeiss
(Zielfernrohr). An extremely well-preserved ZF4/S rifle scope, constructed of a black-painted non-magnetic metal shaft. It features fully intact ocular and objective lenses with a classic German reticle and crystal clear field of vision. It is topped by two functional elevation and windage adjustment knobs. Riveted to the bottom is a blackened magnetic metal mounting rail with a swivel side clip. One of the adjustment knobs is maker marked “ZF4/S CARL ZEISS JENA DDR”, while the other knob is marked “332656”. An additional mark of “503831” is etched onto the mountain rail. The scope measures 42 mm (w) x 272 mm (l) x 54 mm (h). It is accompanied by its period original carrying case, constructed of multiple pieces of dark brown leather secured together with rows of heavy stitching. It retains a detachable lid secured in place with a strap of identical construction, secured in place with loops riveted with magnetic metal studs. It is unmarked and measures 295 mm in length with the lid attached. With only minor, age-appropriate material fatigue evident to the case, the set is in an overall extremely fine condition.
