Germany, Federal Republic. A 1957 Luftwaffe Flak Badge and Presentation Case Belonging to Unteroffizier Barkau
(Flak-Kampfabzeichen). An oval-shaped badge constructed of silvered metal alloy, in the shape of a wreath consisting of oak leaves, with a Luftwaffe-style eagle on the rop, a Flak 88 facing towards the top right with the barrel extending past the wreath, the reverse plain with a vertical needle-style pin, crimped ball hinge, and crimped flat wire catch, etched onto the reverse is “UFFZ BARKAU” for Unteroffizier Barkau, measures 45.96 mm (w) x 67.07 mm (h), weighs 38.3 g, and in extremely fine condition, accompanied by a presentation case constructed of cardstock, with a slightly textured blue faux leather (leatherette) exterior; the exterior of the lid embossed “flak-Kampf-Abz.” in golden lettering; with a lined interior lid, a slotted medal bed, an intact fabric hinge cover, a functional spring catch and stud release, and a functional metal hinge, measures 74 mm (w) x 81 mm (l) x 24 mm (h), Second War period manufacture modified for postwar wear through removal of the swastika formerly in place by the eagle's talons, in fine condition.
