Germany, Luftwaffe. An Observer Badge, 1957 Issue, by Assmann & Söhne
(Beobachterabzeichen). Constructed of silvered and patinated tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf, with a central swooping Luftwaffe eagle, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, with two visible rivets holding the obverse eagle in place, maker marked with the logo of Assmann & Söhne, Lüdenscheid, measuring 54.06 mm (w) x 53.72 mm (h), weighing 44.8 grams, accompanied by its period original case of issue, constructed of heavy card stock with a faux dark blue leather exterior, the obverse lid with a silver embossed inscription of “BEOBACHTERABZ.” (“OBSERVER BADGE”), the interior with a dark blue satin-type lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted blue doeskin medal bed, opening with a functional magnetic metal spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional magnetic metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 76 mm (w) x 83 mm (l) x 26 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
