Germany, Federal Republic. A German Cross in Silver, 1956 Version
(Deutsches Kreuz in Silber). Constructed of silvered and patinated bronze with enamels, the obverse consisting of an eight-pointed double-overlaid starburst pattern, with a central silvered disc overlaid by a silvered War Merit Cross with Swords, set within a circular laurel leaf wreath wrapped in ribbon and joined together at the bottom by a plaque bearing a date of “1941”, trimmed along both the inner and outer edges with red enameled rings, the reverse with four visible rivets securing the obverse applique in palace, with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 64.46 mm (w) x 64.79 mm (h), weighing 78.8 grams, demonstrating minor loss of finish, in extremely fine condition.
