Germany, Federal Republic. A Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, High-Quality Veteran’s Piece with Case, by Steinhauer & Lück
(Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes mit Etui). Reinstituted 1 September 1939. (c. 1950 issue). Constructed of a silvered bronze alloy with a blackened non-magnetic core, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a ribbed and silvered frame, the obverse with a central mobile swastika, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1939”, the reverse six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with an integral loop connecting to a dual suspension ring with a period original full length of neck ribbon, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid, measuring 48.54 mm (w) x 54.41 mm (h), weighing 27.1 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the interior with a padded white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted and depressed black felt medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 76 mm (w) x 145 mm (l) x 22 mm (h), with some scratching visible to the case, a high-quality piece produced for a veteran or museum display with original wartime hardware in extremely fine condition.
