Germany, Luftwaffe. An Air Gunner Badge with Case, 1957 Issue
(Luftwaffe Fliegerschützenabzeichen). Constructed of nickel-silver, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, with a central swooping Luftwaffe eagle, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, with two visible rivets holding the obverse eagle in place, unmarked, measuring 45.49 mm (w) x 52.38 mm (h), weighing 30.1 grams, accompanied by its period original case of issue, constructed of heavy card stock, the obverse lid with a gold embossed inscription of “LUFTWAFFEN-FLIEGERSCHÜTZEN-ABZEICHEN” (“LUFTWAFFE AIR GUNNER BADGE”), the interior with a blue satin-type lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted blue doeskin medal bed, opening with a functional magnetic metal spring catch with an exterior stud release and a functional magnetic metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 75 mm (w) x 81 mm (l) x 25 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
