Germany, Wehrmacht. A 1939 Iron Cross II Class, 1957 Issue
(Eisernes Kreuz 1939 I. Klasse). Reinstituted 1 September 1939. (1939-1945 issue). Constructed of nickel alloy and iron, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed, silvered, nickel alloy frame, the obverse with three raised central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with the reinstitution date of “1939”, the reverse six o’clock arm with the initial institution date of “1813”, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon affixed to a padded red wool backer with horizontal pinback, unmarked, measuring 44.60 mm (w) x 48.14 mm (h), weighing 28.4 grams (inclusive of ribbon and backer), in extremely fine condition.
