Consisting of 1) A Breast Star; a four-rayed silver gilt star, with a center applique attached to the obverse, constructed of bronze gilt and red enamels, with a black enameled eagle in the centre; the reverse plain, with a vertical banjo style pinback, with a barrel hinge and a rounded catch; marked “ST&L” for “Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid” and “900” for silver content on the reverse; measuring 82.90 mm (w) x 84.51 mm (h); weighing 64.4 grams. 2) A Sash Badge; constructed of bronze gilt and red enamels; the obverse with a black enameled eagle in the centre; identical reverse; on a broad loop for suspension from its period original sash ribbon; measuring 60.46 mm (w) x 60.27 mm (h); weighing 28.6 grams; in overall mint condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
