A German Medal Grouping Consisting of an Iron Cross 1939 & Eastern Front Medal
A second war German medal grouping consisting of an Iron Cross 1939 and an Eastern Front Winter Campaign Medal; the Iron cross 1939 (“Eisernes Kreuz 1939 2. Klasse”); constructed of a white metal cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a white metal ribbed border; on loop for suspension marked “25” for “Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Graveur - Gold und Silberschmiede - Innungen, Hanau”; with its period original ribbon; the obverse with a raised central mobile swastika with the re-institution date “1939” in raised numbering on the lower arm; the reverse with the original institution date “1813” in raised numbering on the lower arm; measuring 44.01 mm x 44.20 mm; weighing 18.8 grams. The second war German Eastern Front Winter Campaign Medal (Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42 medaille; in silvered and patinated feinzink; with a large national eagle on the obverse clutching a swastika (“Hakenkreuz”) and a leftward facing Stahlhelm on the top with horizontally oriented stick grenade; the reverse “Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42” (Winter Battle in the East 1941/42” in all capital letters with a crossed sword and laurel wreath on the bottom; on a loop for suspension (unmarked); with a mint measuring 44.37 mm x 35.91 mm; weighing 18.9 grams. Accompanied by its matching medal bar grouping; zink core; horizontal pinback; overall better than very fine condition.
