Germany, Third Reich. A Pair of Cased Medals
(Medaillen mit Etui). A pair of cased medals, including a Sudetenland Medal, constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, the obverse bearing two raised figures, one of which is clutching a flag and the other a length of broken chain, above a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a raised central date of “13. MÄRZ 1938”, circumscribed by an inscription of “EIN VOLK, EIN REICH, EIN FÜHRER” (“ONE PEOPLE, ONE NATION, ONE LEADER”), unmarked, measuring 32.21 mm in diameter, weighing 17.0 grams (inclusive of ribbon), accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a heavy card stock frame with a faux red leather exterior, the lid bearing a gilt embossed Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the interior with a padded white satin lid liner and a slotted maroon velvet medal bed, opening with a functional spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 47 mm (w) x 100 mm (l), in overall better than very fine condition, and; an Honour Cross of the German Mother, Gold Grade, constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Latin Cross, the obverse with blue and white enameled arms, with a central black swastika on a white enameled disc and radiant sun rays between the arms, the reverse with an etched institution date of “16. DEZEMBER 1938” and a signature of the Führer, unmarked, measuring 36 mm (w) x 46 mm (h), accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a heavy card stock frame with a faux blue leather exterior, the lid bearing a gilt embossed depiction of the award, the interior with a white satin-type lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted white velvet medal bed, opening with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, the lid liner maker marked “WILH. DEUMER, LÜDENSCHEID”, measuring 48 mm (w) x 108 mm (l), with material fatigue to the presentation case, in overall near extremely fine condition.
