Germany, Third Reich. A Pair of Service Decorations
(Abzeichen und Medaillen). A pair of service decorations, including an Eastern Front Medal, constructed of silvered and patinated zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a swastika, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” (“WINTER BATTLE IN THE EAST 1941/42”), above a crossed sword and laurel branch, unmarked, measuring 36.27 mm (w) x 44.44 mm (h), weighing 23.6 grams, accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of rose-pink paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “MEDAILLE ‘WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN’ 1941/42 (OSTMEDAILLE)” and a maker mark of “PAUL MEYBAUER, BERLIN, measuring 58 mm (w) x 88 mm (h), including an original wax paper insert, in unissued and overall near mint condition; a Silver Grade Wound Badge, constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a bow tie ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with an integral barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting an integral catch, unmarked, measuring 36.71 mm (w) x 44.45 mm (h), weighing 20.1 grams, accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of field-grey paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “VERWUNDETENABZEICEHN SILBER” and a maker’s mark of “STEINHAUER & LÜCK, LÜDENSCHEID”, measuring 60 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), including an original wax paper insert, in extremely fine condition.
