Germany, Wehrmacht. A Pair of Badges
(Wehrmacht Abzeichen). A pair of badges, including an Infantry Assault Badge, Silver Grade, constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, diagonally across the badge is a Karabiner 98k rifle with the bayonet attached and the carrying sling hanging from the rifle, the reverse with a raised barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, an unmarked variant found on pages 206-207 of Sascha Weber’s “The Infantry Assault Badges” (2008), measuring 47.11 mm (w) x 62.64 mm (h), weighing 32.2 grams, with loss of finish evident throughout, in overall verify in fine condition, and; a German Equestrian Badge, constructed of bronze, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a stylized belt around a raised letter “R”, with a central depiction of a horse and rider, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flattened catch, maker marked “L. CHR. LAUER, NÜRNBERG”, measuring 41.98 mm (w) x 51.96 mm (h), weighing 14.9 grams, in overall near extremely fine condition.
