Germany, Wehrmacht. An 8th Panzer Regiment Veteran’s Awards

(Wehrmacht Abzeichen und Insignien mit Schaukasten). Acquired from the family in Summer 2019, this is a complete and unique and extensive presentation case of Wehrmacht awards and insignia.The family has erased the recipients name on the reverse and wishes the awards to remain anonymous. Compiled by a veteran of the 8th Panzer Regiment, including the following:

1. A 1939 Iron Cross I Class, constructed of iron and silver, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central mobile swastika, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1939”, then reverse with a black hinge and banjo-stye pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “100” for Wächtler & Lange, Mittweida, measuring 43.92 mm (w) x 43.82 mm (h), weighing 17.6 grams, with some damage evident to the swastika and obverse centre, in overall very fine condition.

2. A 1939 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension from its period original parade mounted ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central mobile swastika, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1939”, the reverse six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, unmarked, measuring 43.62 mm (w) x 48.74 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.

3. An Italian War Merit Cross, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original parade mounted ribbon, unmarked, measuring 38.18 mm (w) x 43.78 mm (h), in extremely fine condition; an Italian-German African Campaign Medal, constructed of bronzed zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with central Arco de Fileni of Brega, flanked by a fasces and swastika, circumscribed by inscription “ITALIENISCH DEUTSCHER FELDZUG IN AFRICA” (“ITALIAN-GERMAN CAMPAIGN IN AFRICA”), reverse with raised image of German and Italian soldiers grappling with a crocodile, unmarked, measuring 29.76 mm (w) x 35.02 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.

4. A Panzer Badge, Silver Grade, constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, with a central Panzer IV rolling over grassy ground and with its tread extending beyond the wreath, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 41.40 mm (w) x 60.24 mm (h), weighing 16.9 grams, with evidence of period catch repair and some loss of finish, in overall very fine condition..

5. A Wound Badge, Silver Grade, constructed of silvered bronze, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 38.68 mm (w) x 43.08 mm (h), weighing 9.3 grams, with minor loss of finish evident, in near extremely fine condition.

6. A medal ribbon bar featuring three decorations, including a 1939 Iron Cross, an Italian War Merit Cross, and an Italian-German African Campaign Medal, the reverse with a horizontal pinback, unmarked, measuring 74 mm (w) x 10 mm (h), in extremely fine condition; a Heer Panzer Division fob, constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on a chain suspension with a functional spring clip, unmarked, measuring 30 mm (w) x 82 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.

7. A Kriegsmarine officer’s summer uniform breast eagle, constructed of silvered feinkzink, the reverse with a barrel hinge and horizontal pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 95 mm (w) x 35 mm (h), some loss of finish evident, in overall better than very fine condition; a set of Heer Panzer Hauptmann shoulder boards, each constructed of cardboard-reinforced rose-pink wool, bearing four bands of silver aluminum wire piping, and pinned with dual zink rank pips and gilded bronze numerals “8”, both unmarked and measuring 32 mm (w) x 105 mm (l), with some mothing and material fatigue evident, in overall better than very fine condition.

8. A set of Heer Panzer collar tabs, each constructed of black wool with buckram cores, trimmed with rose-pink piping, and pinned with Totenkopf cyphers, both unmarked and measuring 40 mm (w) x 70 mm (l), in overall near extremely fine condition; an Afrika cuff title, constructed of brown camel hair cloth, trimmed at both the top and bottom with silver-grey threading, the exterior bearing a silver-grey machine-embroidered inscription of “AFRIKA” flanked by palm trees, unmarked, measuring 32 mm (w) x 330 mm (l), in extremely fine condition.

9. An Afrika Korps cuff title, constructed of a slate grey rayon base, trimmed at both the top and bottom with machine-embroidered silver aluminum wire tresses, the obverse bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey inscription of “AFRIKAKORPS”, unmarked, measuring 24 mm (w) x 174 mm (l) as presented, in extremely fine condition; all presented within a black plastic frame, the reverse with a handwritten chart compiled by the veteran detailing the contents German, measuring 368 mm (w) x 220 mm (h), a unique and desirable collection.
