Germany. A Mixed lot of Badges and Insignia
(Abzeichen und Insignien). A mixed lot of five badges and insignia, including an Eastern Front Medal, constructed of silvered and patinated zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a swastika, the reverse bearing an inscription of “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” (“WINTER BATTLE IN THE EAST 1941/42”), above a crossed sword and laurel branch, topped by a Stahlhelm and stick grenade, unmarked, measuring 35.57 mm (w) x 43.87 mm (h), weighing 20.0 grams, with oxidation and loss of finish evident, in very fine condition; a Black Grade Wound Badge, constructed of blackened magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a ball hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 37.70 mm (w) x 45.11 mm (h), weighing 11.6 grams, in poor condition; a Luftwaffe EM/NCO’s visor cap insignia, constructed of of an aluminum alloy, the reverse missing its attachment prongs, unmarked, measuring 140 mm (w) x 40 mm (h), in very fine condition; a 1916 Gold for Iron donor’s medallion, constructed of blackened magnetic iron, designer marked “HOSAEUS”, measuring 40.07 mm in diameter, weighing 19.7 grams, in near extremely fine condition, and; a Catholic church pilgrimage badge modified from a wartime Wound Badge, constructed of blackened magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a circular laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central Latin Cross on a hollow background, the reverse with a vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 36.98 mm (w) x 44.30 mm (h), weighing 7.5 grams, with some loss of paint evident, in overall very fine condition.
