Constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, unmarked, measuring 41 mm (w) x 46 mm (h), accompanied by its original case of issue, constructed of card stock with a faux red leather exterior, obverse lid with gold embossed “40” inside oak leaf branches, interior with white satin-type lid liner, intact hinge cover, and depressed red felt medal bed, functional magnetic metal spring catch with exterior stud release, functional magnetic metal hinge, maker marked on lid liner “Deschler & Sohn, München”, measuring 49 mm (w) x 102 mm (l), 19 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
