Germany, NSDAP. A Golden Party Badge, Small Version by Josef Fuess
(Goldenes Ehrenzeichen der NSDAP). A well-preserved example of a NSDAP Golden Party Badge constructed of gilded tombac and multi-coloured enamels. The obverse presents with a central black mobile swastika within a bed of white enamels, with a red enameled edge inscribed “NATIONAL-SOZIALISTISCHE D.A.P.” (“National Socialist German Workers’ Party”). The reverse presents with a horizontal pinback and NSDAP member number “74943”. The badge measures 24.10 mm in diameter and weighs 12.6 grams. Minor flecking and cracking of the enamels is evident, and the pinback displays evidence of period repair, but the badge is in an otherwise very fine condition. Footnote: As per Jo Rivett, “The Party Badge”, page 499, unmarked badges with obverse floating swastikas were solely produced by Josef Fuess, München.
