Germany, NSDAP. A Rare and Exceptional Gau Wartheland Honour Badge
(Gau-Ehrenzeichen Wartheland). Constructed of silvered tombak with enamels, the obverse consisting of a circular oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a raised date of “1939” executed in blue enamels, in turn topped by a raised plow and sword, all surrounding a detailed NSDAP-style German national eagle perched on top of a wreathed swastika, the latter similarly finished in blue enamels, the reverse bearing an engraved award number of “NR. 85” (otherwise unmarked), with nine visible domed rivets securing the obverse feature in place, completing with a block hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, measuring 52.86 mm (w) x 52.20 mm (h), weighing 31.5 grams, minor loosening of the obverse features is evident but all fixtures remain securely in place, in addition to some flecking of the enamels with fine cracks visible to the numeral “1”, a scarce and desirable badge in near extremely fine condition.
