A Waffen-SS Maintenance Detachment 11 Nr. 6 Nordland, of the 11th SS-Volunteer Panzergrenadier Division Nordland Identification Tag; in zink; stamped “SS-Inst. Abt. 11 Nr: 6 Nordland” on both sides of the triple slotted line; three drill holes; measuring 70 mm x 51 mm; in ground-found condition.

Footnote: The Instandsetzungs Abteilungen of the Second War were tasked with supplying their division with gasoline, munitions, and food rations, amongst other things necessary for the division to function. The 11th SS-Volunteer Panzergrenadier Division Nordland was created of foreign volunteers in February 1943. In its beginning stages, it primarily consisted of Scandinavian volunteers of the Wiking’s SS-panzergrenadier-Regiment Nordland. It was put in the command of Felix Steiner, and moved to Croatia, where it fought against Yugoslav partisans in 1943, at the gates of Leningrad in 1944. It played a vital role in the final defense of Berlin in 1945 until it was completely destroyed by the advancing Red Army.
