A Franco-Prussian war ribbon bar with six ribbons belonging to Oberstein Reinhold von Hanstein, consisting of 1) An Iron Cross 1870 Second Class ribbon with miniature Iron Cross 1870, 2) A Prussian Order of the Crown ribbon, 3) A Prussian Order of the Red Eagle ribbon with Swords, 4) A Königgrätz Cross ribbon, 5) A Prussian House Order of Hohenzollern Honour Cross ribbon, 6) A Prussian Long Service ribbon; brass core; horizontal pinback; measuring 154 mm (w) x 40 mm (h); moderately soiled; in overall better than very fine condition.

Footnote: Reinhold Lebrecht Moritz von Hanstein was born on October 16, 1819 in Schmolsin (present-day Smołdzino, northern Poland). He became a Hussar in 1837 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant in 1840. In 1853 he was made a First Lieutenant and a squadron commander in the 12th Landwehr Hussar Regiment. Subsequently, in the rank of Rittmeister (Captain), Hanstein became a squadron commander in different Dragoon regiments. His promotion to Major followed in 1864. Hanstein fought in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. The following year he took command of the 1st Guard Hussar Regiment, another year later Hanstein was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, and to Colonel in 1870. He performed his duty during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class. In 1874 Hanstein retired in the rank of Major General. He died on October 5, 1876.
