An Iron Cross 1939 First Class “Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse”; white metal cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a white metal ribbed border; the obverse with a raised central mobile swastika with the re-institution date “1939” in raised numbering on the lower arm; the reverse plain, with a vertical slender banjo style pinback, a barrel hinge, and a slightly rounded wire catch; marked “6” on the pinback for “Fritz Zimmermann of Stuttgart”; measuring 43.97 mm x 44.06 mm; weighing 18.3 grams; attractive dark patina on the frame from age; in overall better than very fine condition.
