An Iron Cross 1939 First Class
An “Eisernes Kreuz 1939 1. Klasse”; white metal cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a white metal ribbed border; the obverse with a raised central mobile swastika with the re-institution date “1939” in raised numbering on the lower arm; the reverse plain, with a vertical slender banjo style pinback, a barrel hinge, and a round wire catch; measuring 44.29 mm x 44.22 mm; weighing 20.7 grams; a gently worn example, but with contact marks, light veining, and light oxidation visible on the core of the cross, with patina on the frame from age; in near very fine condition.
