An Iron Cross 1939 First Class by B. H. Mayer’s Kunstprägeanstalt of Pforzheim
A fine textbook example of an “Eisernes Kreuz 1939 1. Klasse”; white metal cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a white metal ribbed border; the obverse with a raised central mobile swastika with the re-institution date “1939” in raised numbering on the lower arm; the reverse plain, with a vertical slender banjo style pinback, a sheet metal hinge, and a slightly rounded catch; maker marked “26” for “B. H. Mayer’s Kunstprägeanstalt of Pforzheim” on the pin; flat; measuring 44.21 mm x 44.35 mm; lustrous silver frame, in overall very fine condition. (C: 163)
