An “Eisernes Kreuz 1939 1. Klasse”; white metal cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a white metal ribbed border; the obverse with a raised central mobile swastika with the re-institution date “1939” in raised numbering on the lower arm; the reverse plain, with a slender banjo style pinback, a barrel hinge, and a round wire catch; the catch maker marked “L/13” for “Paul Meybauer of Berlin”; dated “27 Mai, 1944” on the reverse via hand etched writing; measuring 43.93 mm x 44.09 mm; weighing 18.7 grams; light traces of previous collector’s mounting remaining on the reverse; slightly vaulted; near extremely fine condition.
