Germany, Wehrmacht. A Cased Clasp to the I. Class Iron Cross 1939, First Type, by the Unknown Maker I
(Wiederholungsspange zum Eisernen Kreuz I. Klasse 1939 im Etui). Constructed of heavily silvered tombac, inthe shape of a German national eagle with open wings clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, on-top of a banner dated “1939” within a pebbled field, the reverse with a vertical pinback, a barrel hinge, and a flat wire catch, unmarked, but displaying the typical manufacturing characteristics of Unknown Maker I of “The Iron Cross 1. Class” on page 450, by Dietrich Maerz/George Stimson, measuring 44.28 mm (w) x 30.95 mm (h), weighing 13.6 grams. Accompanied by its case of issue, constructed of heavy cardstock with a lightly textured faux leather (leatherette) exterior, the exterior of the case with a clear outline of a Clasp in silver, a lined interior lid, a partially severed interior fabric hinge cover, a slotted medal bed, a functional spring catch with stud release, and a functional exterior metal hinge, measuring 69 mm (w) x 69 mm (h), with some toning of the silver, but in overall mint condition.
