Germany, Wehrmacht. A Clasp to the 1939 Iron Cross I Class, Type II, by B.H. Mayer
(Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz I. Klasse). Instituted 1 September 1939. (1940-1945 issue). Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, above a trapezoidal plaque bearing a raised institution date of “1939” on a pebbled background, the reverse with a barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of the no-vein variant by B.H. Mayer, Pforzheim, measuring 44.38 mm (w) x 30.58 mm (h), weighing 9.4 grams, in overall near extremely fine condition.
