Prussia, Kingdom. A I. Class Iron Cross 1914 with a Clasp to the II. Class Iron Cross 1939, Second Type
(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 II. Klasse mit der Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz 1939 II. Klasse). Instituted on 5.10.1914 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. (Issued 1914-1918). A cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a ribbed border; on loop for suspension; with its period original ribbon; the obverse with a raised central “W”, with the re-institution date “1914” in raised numbering on the lower arm, and the royal crown on the upper arm; the reverse with a central oak-leaf branch consisting of three oak leaves, with the original institution date “1813” in raised numbers on the lower arm, a raised Prussian crown on the upper arm, with “FW” in equally raised lettering directly below; measuring 43.31 mm (w) x 43.28 mm (h). The clasp constructed of silvered tombak, consisting of a national eagle with open wings clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, with a dated “1939” in a banner at the base, with all four prongs intact, measuring 30.48 mm (w) x 30.66 mm (h). In overall very fine condition.
