Germany, Wehrmacht. An Attributed 1914 Iron Cross I Class with 1939 Clasp Set

(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 I. Klasse mit Spangen und Etui). A rare example of a complete Iron Cross set issue to a decorated veteran of both World Wars and Knight's Cross recipient Major der Reserve Karl Schulz. Consisting of a 1914 Iron Cross I Class, constructed of iron and silver, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with a crimped sheet metal barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid, measuring 43.16 mm (w) x 43.46 mm (h), weighing 15.4 grams, in extremely fine condition; a 1939 Clasp to the Iron Cross II Class, Type II, constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle perched on top of a wreathed mobile swastika, in turn on top of a trapezoidal plaque bearing a raised date of “1939” on a pebbled background, the reverse with all four attachment prongs intact and affixed to a 1914 Iron Cross II Class ribbon, unmarked, measuring 30.55 mm (w) x 31.29 mm (h), weighing 7.6 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in extremely fine condition; a 1939 Clasp to the Iron Cross I Class, Type II, constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle perched on top of a wreathed mobile swastika, in turn on top of a trapezoidal plaque bearing a raised date of “1939” on a pebbled background, the reverse with a raised barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid, measuring 44.25 mm (w) x 29.77 mm (h), weighing 9.0 grams, in near extremely fine condition; accompanied by a period original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux black leather exterior, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and a slotted black velvet medal bed, opening with a functional brass snap button and dual functional metal hinges, unmarked, measuring 90 mm (w) x 155 mm (l) x 34 mm (h), with age-appropriate material fatigue evident to the interior and exterior of the case, in overall very fine condition.
