Germany, Wehrmacht. A German Cross in Silver, by Deschler & Sohn, München
(Deutsches Kreuz in Silber). Instituted 28 September 1941. (1941-1945 issue). Constructed of silver tombak with aluminum and enamels, consisting of a double-overlaid sunburst pattern with eight points, the centre bearing a black enameled mobile swastika on an aluminum background, within a stamped silvered circular laurel leaf wreath with ribbons and a banner bearing a date of “1941”, both the inner and outer edges of the wreath are trimmed with thin red enameled rings, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, with six visible rivets securing the obverse features in place, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Deschler & Sohn, München, measuring 63.28 mm (w) x 63.25 mm (h), weighing 65.6 grams, slight loosening of the wreath is evident, in overall near extremely fine condition.
