Germany, Third Reich. A Cased German Cross in Gold, by Deschler & Sohn
(Deutsches Kreuz in Gold). Constructed of tombak with a double-overlaid sunburst pattern with eight points; the center with a black enameled rotated (mobile) swastika, with the enamels well preserved without chipping of any kind and only minor contact marks; within a stamped gilded circular wreath impressed with oak leaves, ribbons, and the introduction year “1941”; the inner and outer sides of the wreath feature a thin red enameled rings with a silver core in the middle; the reverse plain, with a slender vertical pinback, with a sheet metal hinge and a round wire catch; with six rivets visible on the reverse; unmarked, but displaying all typical manufacturing characteristics of Deschler’s six rivet, heavy, short pin variant; measuring 63.00 mm (w) x 62.62 mm (h); weighing 65.8 grams. Accompanied by its case of issue; constructed of heavy cardstock, with a lightly textured faux leather (leatherette) exterior; with a lined interior lid, slotted medal bed, functional spring catch with stud release, intact interior fabric hinge, and functional exterior metal hinge; measuring 75 mm (w) x 82 mm (h); with light to moderate chipping in the black enamels of the swastika, along with a loose laurel wreath; in overall near very fine condition.
