A German Cross in Silver by Fritz Zimmermann of Stuttgart; Light Version in its Case of Issue
This is a fine quality manufacture and extremely well preserved German Cross in Silver (Deutsches Kreuz in Silver) by a desirable maker; with its trademark four hollow rivets on the reverse; double-overlaid sunburst pattern with eight points; the center with a black enameled rotated (mobile) swastika, with the enamels well preserved without chipping of any kind and mostly only minor contact marks; within a stamped silvered circular wreath impressed with oak leaves, ribbons, and the introduction year “1941”; the inner and outer sides of the wreath feature thin red enameled rings with a silver core in the middle; the reverse plain but with a broad vertical pinback with a functional barrel hinge and a thick, slightly rounded catch; marked “20” for “Fritz Zimmermann, Stuttgart” on the reverse of the pin; measuring 62.73 mm x 62.99 mm; weighing 45.9 grams. Accompanied by its original case of issue; constructed of heavy pressed paper, with a textured black faux leather (leatherette) exterior; lined interior lid with a slotted medal bed; functional spring catch with stud release; intact interior fabric hinge cover; functional exterior metal hinge; measuring 108 mm x 109 mm; the cross with the majority of the silvering intact on the wreath, and with mostly minor contact marks but with light scratches on the left arm on the swastika; in near extremely fine condition.
