Germany. An Iron Cross 1939 First Class in its Case of Issue
An fine example of an Iron Cross 1939 First Class “Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse”; a cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a ribbed border, the obverse with a raised central mobile swastika with the re-institution date “1939” in raised numbering on the lower arm, the reverse plain, with a vertical pinback, a barrel hinge, and a round wire catch; an unmarked example; measuring 44.19 mm (w) x 44.24 mm (h); weighing 20.8 grams. Accompanied by its original case of issue; constructed of heavy cardstock, with a black faux leather (leatherette) exterior; the exterior of the lid embossed with a clear silver outline of an Iron Cross; lined interior lid, with a functional spring catch and stud release; intact interior fabric hinge cover, slotted medal bed, and a functional metal hinge on the exterior of the case; measuring 70 mm (w) x 72 mm (h); with light wear to the black finish on the obverse of the cross, but otherwise a fine example of an issued Iron Cross; in overall better than very fine condition.
