Germany, Heer. A 1939 Iron Cross II Class with Award Document, by Klein and Quenzer
(Eisernes Kreuz 1939 II. Klasse mit Verleihungsurkunde). Reinstituted 1 September 1939. (1939-1945 issue). Constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core with a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central mobile swastika, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1939”, the reverse six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the suspension loop maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “65” for Klein & Quenzer, Idar-Oberstein, measuring 44.34 mm (w) x 47.88 mm (h), weighing 18.2 grams, accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of light blue paper stock, the obverse exterior with a black inscription of “EISERNES KREUZ 2. KLASSE 1939”, the reverse exterior with a maker’s mark of “KLEIN & QUENZER, OBERSTEIN”, measuring 104 mm (w) x 130 mm (h), in overall extremely fine condition; including an award document, constructed of off-white paper stock with black ink, named to “OBGEFR. LEHNER” of “7./GREN.REGT. 399”, dated 1 July 1943, featuring a handwritten signature of General Walther Krause, measuring 142 mm (w) x 202 mm (h), the document was torn into eight pieces and reassembled with tape, in fair condition.
