Germany, Wehrmacht. A 1939 Clasp to the Iron Cross I Class, Type II, by Otto Schickle
(Wiederholungsspange 1939 zum Eisernen Kreuz I. Klasse 1914). Reinstituted 1 September 1939. (1940-1945 issue). Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of a German national eagle perched on top of a wreathed mobile swastika, in turn situated above a trapezoidal plaque bearing a raised date of “1939” on a pebbled background, the reverse with a block hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by Otto Schickle, Pforzheim, measuring 45.36 mm (w) x 31.15 mm (h), weighing 10.8 grams, in near extremely fine condition.
