Germany, Wehrmacht. A 1939 Clasp to the Iron Cross I Class, Type II with Case, by Paul Meybauer
(Wiederholungsspange 1939 zum Eisernen Kreuz I. Klasse 1914, 2. Form mit Etui). Reinstituted 1 September 1939. (1940-1945 issue). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle perched on top of a wreathed mobile swastika, in turn situated above a trapezoidal plaque bearing a raised date of “1939” on a pebbled background, the reverse with a crimped hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked with LDO code “L/13” for Paul Meybauer, Berlin, measuring 44.30 mm (w) x 31.29 mm (h), weighing 10.9 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, the former bearing a gilt “LDO” logo, with a slotted black felt medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 70 mm (w) x 70 mm (l) x 24 mm (h), demonstrating minor loss of finish to the decoration, in overall near extremely fine condition.
