Germany, Wehrmacht. A 1939 Iron Cross I Class, with Case
(Eisernes Kreuz 1939 I. Klasse mit Etui). Reinstituted 1 September 1939. (1939-1945 issue). Constructed of iron and silver, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central mobile swastika, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1939”, the reverse with a central lug connecting to an original backplate, the twelve o’clock arm with a stabilizing pin, unmarked, measuring 44.12 mm (w) x 44.08 mm (h), weighing 20.2 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a card stock frame with a faux black leather exterior, the interior with a white rayon lid liner bearing a LDO insignia, with a slotted black velvet medal bed, measuring 68 mm (w) x 68 mm (l) x 22 mm (h), with material fatigue evident to the case, in overall extremely fine condition.
