Germany, Wehrmacht. A 1939 Iron Cross I Class with Case
(Eisernes Kreuz 1939 I. Klasse mit Etui). Reinstituted 1 September 1939. (1939-1945 issue). A Cross Pattée of multi-piece construction, with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver border, the obverse with a raised central mobile swastika with the re-institution date “1939” in raised numbering on the lower arm, the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 44.18 mm (w) x 44.37 mm (h), weighing 20.5 grams, accompanied by its period original case of issue, constructed of card stock with a faux black leather exterior, the obverse with a silver embossed outline of the decoration, the interior with a white satin-type lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted white felt medal bed, functional magnetic metal spring catch with exterior stud release, functional magnetic medal hinge, unmarked, measuring 68 mm (w) x 68 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
