Germany, Wehrmacht. A 1939 Iron Cross, I Class, with Case, by B.H. Mayer
(Eisernes Kreuz 1939 1. Klasse). A cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core within a ribbed silver border, the obverse with a raised central mobile swastika with the re-institution date 1939 in raised numbering on the lower arm, the reverse plain with a crimped metal hinge and vertical banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but displays the characteristics of a B.H. Mayer, measuring 44.43 mm (w) x 44.49 mm (h), weighing 17.9 grams, accompanied by its period original case, constructed of cardstock with a faux black leather exterior, outline of an Iron Cross embossed in silver on lid, with a white satin-type lid liner, intact hinge cover, slotted black felt medal bed, functional magnetic metal spring catch with exterior stud release, functional magnetic metal hinge, measuring 68 mm (w) x 67 mm (l) x 17 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
