Germany, Wehrmacht. A German Cross in Gold, by Deschler & Sohn

(Deutsches Kreuz in Gold). Constructed of tombak with gilt and enamels, the obverse consisting of a double-overlaid eight-pointed starburst executed with a silvered and patinated finish, surrounding a central silvered disc overlaid by a black enameled mobile swastika, situated within a circular gilded laurel leaf wreath, wrapped in ribbon and joined together at the bottom by a plaque bearing a date of “1914”, with both the inner and outer edges of the wreathed trimmed in red enamel, the reverse with four visible rivets securing the obverse features in place, with a barrel hinge and tapering flat vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, the pinback maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “1” for Descher & Sohn, Munich, measuring 63.13 mm(w) x 63.22 mm (h), weighing 71.6 grams, scratching and loss of finish is visible to the enamels and base metal, respectively, a scarce heavy version by a desirable manufacturer in near extremely fine condition.
