Germany, Wehrmacht. A German Cross in Gold, by Otto Klein
(Deutsches Kreuz in Gold). Constructed of cupal with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a double-overlaid radiant starburst pattern, with a central silvered disc bearing a black enameled mobile swastika, within a circular laurel leaf wreath wrapped in ribbon, joined together at the bottom by a plaque bearing a date of “1941”, trimmed along both the inner and outer edges with a red enameled ring, the reverse with four visible rivets securing the obverse features in place, with a barrel hinge and flat tapering pinback meeting a rounded catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “134” for Otto Klein, Hanau, measuring 63.12 mm (w) x 63.10 mm (h), weighing 45.67 grams, minor tarnishing and surface oxidation is visible to the base metal while the enamel of the swastika shows scratching throughout in addition to a small chip to the nine o’clock arm, in better than very fine condition.
