Germany. A Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, by Steinhauer & Lück, Type A, c.1944
(Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes 1939). Offered is a Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross 1939 by Steinhauer & Lück of Lüdenscheid. This Knight’s Cross features a regulation late war A-Type silver frame that is marked with a micro “800” for silver content. It also exhibits all manufacturing characteristics and die flaws of a textbook A-Type Knight’s Cross, known by collectors as a late war manufacture Knight’s Cross by this maker. The numerals “1939” on the obverse, and “1814” on the reverse are identical to proven examples of the same period. It measures 48.16 mm (w) x 48.10 mm (h), and weighs 29.3 grams. It is accompanied by a short leather-backed Knight’s Cross ribbon to be worn around the neckline by a string. The cross itself depicts signs of wear, including some slight to moderate oxidation and wear of the paint; in overall very fine condition.
