Constructed of patinated feinzink, the obverse bearing a central raised oak leaf and mobile swastika, inset within a date of “1939”, the reverse bearing a raised howitzer topped by a German national eagle, above an inscription of “ZUR ERINNERUNG AN DAS ARTILLERIE-RGT. 152”, (IN MEMORY OF THE 152ND ARTILLERY REGIMENT”), unmarked, measuring 95 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Attached to 52. Infanterie-Division at the outbreak of the Second World War, Artillerie-Regiment 152 initially manned defensive positions in the Saarpfalz to deter a French incursion into Germany, and later participated in the spring 1940 invasion of France. It later participated in Operation Barbarossa as part of Army Group Centre, and was disbanded in November 1943 after being decimated in the fighting for Smolensk.
