Germany, Wehrmacht. A Spanish Volunteer Medal, by Deschler & Sohn
(Erinnerungsmedaille für die spanischen Freiwilligen im Kampf gegen den Bolschewismus). Constructed of gilded zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a central raised sword, overlaid by shield bearing Heer and Falange insignia, topped by a Stahlhelm, above a swastika flanked by clutches of laurel leaves, the reverse bearing an inscription of “DIVISIÓN ESPAÑOLA DE VOLUNTARIOS EN RUSIA” (“DIVISION OF SPANISH VOLUNTEERS IN RUSSIA”), above an Iron Cross topped by laurel branches, the suspension loop maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “1” for Deschler & Sohn, Munich, measuring 32.45 mm in diameter, weighing 11.4 grams, with near-total loss of finish and minor oxidation evident, in very fine condition.
