Germany, Wehrmacht. A Lot of Eastern Front Medals
(Ostmedaille). A mixed lot of three Eastern Front Medals, all constructed of silvered and patinated zink and on loops for suspensions from period original ribbons, the obverse of each bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a swastika, the reverse of each bearing a raised inscription of “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” (“WINTER BATTLE IN THE EAST 1941/42”) above a crossed sword and laurel branch, all topped by a Stahlhelm and stick grenade, one maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “100” for Wächtler & Lange, Mittweida, one maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “65” for Klein & Quenzer, Idar-Oberstein, and one unmarked, all measuring approximately 36 mm (w) x 44 mm (h), all accompanied by mis-matched packages of issues, each constructed of light brown paper stock, one bearing a maker’s mark of “E. FERDINAND WIEDMANN, FRANKFURT A. M.”, one bearing a maker’s mark of “J.E. HAMMER & SÖHNE, GERINGSWALDE”, and one marked with an LDO code of “L55” for Wächtler & Lange, Mittweida, some demonstrating minor oxidation and loss of finish, in overall better than very fine condition.
